"Rusted Heart"

Design Rationale

Title: Rusted Heart

My sculpture is basically about a abstract heart that is made up of metal scrap parts of motorcycles. The title rusted heart is to show that the heart may look shiny clean and nice at the front but actually at the back is all the bad things and habit of the person. It is actually related to what many used to say “Never Judge A Book By Its Cover”. And my sculpture is actually saying that a person can hide all his/her bad things and habits inside but sooner or later everything will rust. Its like a person tries to keep the engine and exhaust pipe clean and shiny but it will not be long as it will rust later. So to show the effect of rusty I used motorcycle parts to portray the message.

"Textures, Patterns & Colour

DESIGN RATIONALE            :

Image 1

This photo is about the colour and pattern that I want to emphasis on. The colour of this photo has a value of tone from green to yellow. And the contrast of the green and yellow gives a brighter looks and is attractive. And notice the shadow in between the rolls; there is a tone of darker colour inside. And with both the darker and lighter colour blend, the photograph forms a pattern. The pattern is achieved because of the roll and the darker colour inside the roll. There is also space in between the rolls and this adds in to the pattern when there is a gap.

 Image 2

This photograph is about the texture and colour of the jeans. The texture on the jeans has different range of colours. And notice on the jeans there is a very small repetitive pattern. This small repetitive pattern creates an emphasis on the texture and the colour of the jeans creates the value and tone of the jeans. The texture of the jeans gives a smooth feeling because the surface of the texture seems to be rounded and level together. The alignment of the repetitive pattern is close to each other leaving no gaps in between. And notice that the pattern of the texture is vertical and not horizontal.

 Image 3

This photograph is basically to emphasis on the pattern of the typewriter letters and the colour of the background lighting. The pattern of the typewriter letters, which is, took from the side show a repetition of the same pattern. And the pattern gets blur, as it is further away. The colour of the photograph is created from the lighting from the background. The lighting from the background gives a slight shadow on the typewriter, which also creates a pattern of a darker colour tone. And notice that the lighting colour of the background gets brighter as it goes further to the other side of the typewriter. And also the size of the typewriter button gets smaller and smaller as its goes further.

 Image 4

This photograph is to emphasis on the texture and the colour of the brick wall. The brick wall has a very rough texture surface on the brick. Notice that the bricks are aligns together leaving some space in between each other. And the colour of the brick actually creates that rough texture look. The value and tone of the brick also creates a differentiate in the colour, textures and pattern. And notice that the view of the photography is to emphasis and capture the pattern, colour and texture of the brick more.

 Image 5

This photo is about the pattern, texture and the colour. The repetition of the holes creates a pattern on all sides of the photo. And the holes are aligning neatly in vertical and horizontal way. The pattern is constant and is of the same size. There is also texture in this photograph, which is the smooth surface. The surface is shiny and is a metal. And notice that there is tone of the light on the surface of the photograph. Colour is also capture in this photograph, notice that there is a highlight on the top right hand where the colour of the light is brighter then the bottom hand of the photo. Basically the colour of the photograph is cause by the lighting during the shot. The pattern of the hole emphasis more in this photograph.

 Image 6

Basically in this photograph, I want to emphasis on the pattern of the light and the pattern on the ceiling. I capture the lights because it has a repetitive pattern especially when the lights were switch on. The lights form a pattern coming from the bottom side of the image. And notice that the size of the lights gets bigger as it reaches the top. Another thing I want to emphasis on is the square patterns on the ceiling. Notice that the squares on the ceiling also form a pattern. And there is repetition in pattern and size. Colour wise is that when the light bulb was lighted, there is more emphasis on the light bulb than the background. This is because the light on the light bulb has more contrast and is eye catching towards viewer.

 Image 7

My photograph is to show the pattern and colour. The horizontal repetitive lines with shadows form a pattern with the value and tone of the light. I capture this shot because there is a difference in the tone of the colour and light. Notice that the colour and light at the bottom is brighter than the top, which is darker tone. Even the toning of the light and colour form a pattern in the overall image. And also that there is a deep shadow on every row of line. The colour and the pattern of this photo emphasis more.

 Image 8

This photograph is basically to emphasis on the pattern and the bright colours. About the pattern, I capture the white stripes and orange background because it kind of forms a pattern with different colours.  And the white stripes create a contrast on the orange background. And notice that there is a darker shadow below the white stripes. In colour wise, the contrast of the darker orange to lighter orange forms a tone of colours. And the colour of the background is attractive towards the eye.

 Image 9

This main photograph is to emphasis on the colour and texture. The colour of the photograph gives a very bright orange and yellow, which is, eye catching at a first glance. The colour is also attracting with a little of black stripes. And the colour combination of orange yellow and black blend well together. About the texture of the photograph is notice that the carpet has very smooth fur. Notice the thin hair sticking out all in one position. And the lighting of the photograph which bright yellow at the end of the image actually gives value and tone of the photograph. The texture of the carpet is smooth like a cat’s fur. And also notice that the colour orange and black and the smooth fur actually remind me of a tiger.

Typographic Pattern

DESIGN RATIONALE : My typographic pattern design is actually a very abstract kind of simple flower. I choose a abstract flower because I want to express a very lovely feeling when I look at it. I use repetition in my design to show repetitive love. I also design a smaller abstract flower in between the bigger flower to show a pattern. I actually leave some space in between the pattern. This actually gives a very neat and calm look. The original letter form that I use was Bauhaus 93 for the letter “a” and Zapfino for the letter “ y”. I used Bauhaus 93 for the letter “a” because it gives a very bold and rounded look and for the letter “y” because it gives a very smooth and flexible look. And when both the letter combine together it gives a abstract flower look. I used a very cooling colour because it actually gives a very relaxing and calm feeling. And because of the abstract flower, my design can actually be used for a gift wrap for Christmas. Because the blue and white combinations actually gives a Christmas look and is also very cool and relaxing. I also use a gradient colour of blue and white to show contrast on the pattern. The contrast color starts from the centre inside which is the lighter blue to a darker blue which is the outer part of the pattern. And there is a smaller abstract flower in a darker blue on the four sides coming towards the centre of the pattern. This is to show emphasis at the centre of the pattern which is a lighter blue.
